Preparing the Dough
Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
Combine dry ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the wholemeal flour, plain white flour, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar.
Add the buttermilk
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
Do not over-mix after adding the buttermilk; let the dough rest for 5 minutes to absorb moisture and enhance texture.

Shaping the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Slash a cross on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife to help it rise evenly.
