In a bowl, combine flour and salt.
Cut in Shortening
Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Add Water and Form Dough
Gradually add cold water, mixing just until dough comes together.
Ensure the dough is not overworked to prevent tough pastry. Chill the pastry dough for 15 minutes for easier rolling.
Preparing the Apple Filling
Mix Sugar and Cinnamon
Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
Fill Apples
Core apples and fill each with the sugar mixture.
Add Butter
Top each filled apple with a small pat of butter.
Cooking Process
Rolling the Dough
Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
